Missouri River Fishing Report: 4/19/2022
River Score:
5/5 Ideal

The Missouri River: STILL FISHING GREAT AND THE WORKING FLIES HAVE NOT CHANGED. Full on nymphing mayhem has erupted on the Missouri over the last couple of weeks! The fishing is VERY good on most days. The key is to find a day when the wind is not going to destroy your casts and your rowing, but when the weather cooperates the fish will definitely eat. Most of the rainbows have started to go into spring spawn mode so anything with a pink bead seems to get their attention. Most of the rainbows are hanging out in slow water on inside corners or tailouts and most of them are still in deeper water.
Drop your nymphs around 8-10 feet below your bobber for now, and if that isn’t working go deeper. The fish will start to move in to shallow water sooner or later (some spawners already have so please look out for reds if you are wade fishing) once the weather warms up and that should make for some better dry fly fishing as well once we get some blue winged olives and march browns. Until then slow strip streamers if you don’t like to nymph. Otherwise keep it simple and chase the bobber! WE DO HAVE SOME APRIL and MAY WEEKENDS AVAILABLE FOR GUIDED TRIPS ON THE MISSOURI BUT THEY ARE RUNNING OUT FAST.
ATTENTION: All residents and non-resident anglers need new fishing licenses as of MARCH, 1ST. If you're ready to get out there and start fishing, make sure you pickup a fishing license! Check out our information on getting a fishing license online. Book a trip with us at GUIDE-X.
Suggested fly patterns
Size 14-16 pill poppers (that “sow bug thing” with a pink bead), hot bead chezch nymphs, rainbow beaded perdigons, hot bead perdigons, and streamers have also been good on certain days.
